Forescout vs Asimily:
2026 Comparison
Reviewed by Asimily Team · Last updated
Asimily publishes this comparison and is one of the two products compared, so read it with that in mind and validate both platforms in your own environment. Information here was gathered from public sources, documentation, and discussions with prospects and customers.
Summary
Forescout and Asimily both participate in the cybersecurity market focusing on non-IT assets, such as Internet of Things (IoT), operational technology (OT), and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). Forescout is a network access control (NAC) platform that also discovers devices and enforces policies at the switch. The technologies of two companies it acquired, CyberMDX and SecurityMatters, are part of Forescout’s portfolio. Asimily discovers assets through passive network traffic analysis, safe active scanning, and data normalization across integrations. This is used to prioritize risk across connected devices, then creates and simulates segmentation policies that existing NACs and firewalls enforce. The deciding question is who enforces: Forescout at the switch, or Asimily through the NAC you already run, after analyzing exploitability first.

Introduction
Forescout and Asimily both discover connected devices without agents, inspect network traffic, classify assets, and connect to the wider security stack. They differ in where each one stops. Forescout is also a network access control (NAC) platform that controls and coordinates individual switches similar to Cisco ISE and other switch vendor software. Asimily uses NACs for enforcement of the microsegmentation policies it independently generates. This is based on exploitability analysis (ATT&CK Analysis) and high-detail inventory generation, which can then lead to generating segmentation policy that existing NACs and firewalls enforce.
Forescout renamed its 4D Platform the Vistaro platform on June 24, 2026 (Forescout), and Advent International has owned the company since August 2020 (Ropes & Gray). The sections below compare the two products in the order a program usually matures: inventory first, then exposure, response, and risk mitigations, including but not limited to network segmentation.
1. Inventory and Visibility
Both platforms build inventory without endpoint agents. Asimily expands coverage through deep packet inspection, AI and ML classification against a library of well over 10,000,000 observed devices and profiles, active querying, flow data, and correlation with over 150 different sources, such as Active Directory, CMDB, NAC, DHCP, vulnerability scanners, EDR, and Mobile Device Management. Active methods suit only devices that tolerate the traffic, so Asimily pairs them with passive collection. Asimily also discovers what runs on assets, including services, applications, middleware, and AI chatbots. Forescout describes more than 30 agentless discovery methods, millions of Device Cloud fingerprints for classification, and integrations with many security and IT products.

2. Exposure Management
Inventory feeds exposure, and both platforms score risk per asset. Forescout’s eyeFocus, part of the Forescout Vistaro platform, gives each device a multifactor risk score from three factor groups:
- Configuration: known Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), Exploit Prediction Scoring System (EPSS) scores, and exposed services.
- Function: how critical the device is.
- Behavior: the device’s internet exposure.
Forescout correlates those CVEs with the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog (Forescout, 2026). Asimily ranks vulnerabilities by impact and likelihood, and its ATT&CK Analysis tests whether a vulnerability is exploitable on a specific device in its network context, so teams work from a shorter list of the riskiest devices. Asimily also recommends mitigations when no vendor patch exists, and its risk analysis draws on manufacturer security disclosures and software bills of materials (SBOMs). Risk Simulator then models how a fix would change a device’s risk score before anyone acts.

3. Threat and Response
Both platforms detect anomalous behavior and can contain it. Asimily’s anomaly policies alert or quarantine devices through NACs and supported firewalls when a policy is violated. Forescout describes OT anomaly detection through eyeInspect and automated threat containment (Forescout, June 24, 2026). For incident response, Asimily can record packets from a monitored device, on demand or when a policy is violated, so responders start with the traffic itself and not only an alert.

|---|---|---|
| Anomaly Policies for Notification or Quarantine | Yes; alerts or quarantines on policy violation | Yes; OT anomaly detection with automated containment |
4. Risk Mitigation
Segmentation is a priority for most teams and still unfinished for many: Cisco’s 2025 Segmentation Report found that 79% call it a priority and only 33% have fully implemented it (Cisco, 2026). It is also where the two designs differ most. Forescout is also a NAC that competes with Cisco ISE: it assigns devices to VLANs, applies access control lists (ACLs), and supports both 802.1X and non-802.1X environments (Forescout, accessed October 29, 2026). Its eyeSegment product models zones and validates policies against live traffic before activation (Forescout, accessed October 29, 2026).
Asimily does not enforce at the switch itself. Asimily’s Segmentation Orchestration creates conflict-free policies from actual device behavior, simulates them against live traffic with Policy Simulation, previews the Enforcement Plan, and applies policy through existing NACs and supported firewalls. Continuous Segmentation then applies NAC and firewall policies automatically to new matching devices to get the most out of customers’ existing NAC and firewall investment. Asimily also adds IoT Patching and password management for supported IoT device types.

| Feature | Asimily | Forescout |
|---|---|---|
| Asset Grouping Into Segments | Yes; groups devices and generates ACLs | Yes; identity- and attribute-driven zone modeling |
| Simulate Segmentation Policy Before Enforcement | Yes; simulates policy against live traffic first | Yes; validates policies against live traffic before activation |
| Continually Adapt Policies to Changing Devices | Yes; applies safe policies as devices change | Yes; says it adapts segmentation as risk changes |
| Switch-Level Enforcement | No; enforces through existing NACs and firewalls instead | Yes; assigns VLANs, applies ACLs at switch |
| Harnesses investment in Existing NACs and Firewalls | Yes; applies policy through supported NACs and firewalls | No, duplicates any pre-existing NAC or firewall capabilities to do its own enforcement. |
5. Governance, Risk, and Compliance
Asimily’s Configuration Control captures configuration snapshots of IoT, OT, and IoMT devices to establish a known good state, detects configuration drift, and keeps a change history for audits. Forescout lists Automated Compliance among its platform offerings, with assessments against frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and IEC 62443 (Forescout, accessed October 29, 2026). Ask each vendor how compliance results and device change records reach auditors.
6. Sample Integrations
Both platforms integrate across IT and security tools. Forescout lists integrations with security and IT products (Forescout, June 24, 2026). Asimily correlates network, identity, endpoint, and service management data, plus scanner results, into one record per device, and can apply policy through supported NACs and firewalls. Asimily integration categories and sample products include:
- AI & LLM Providers: Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, others

This is not a complete list. Integrations are added regularly.
7. Deployment Considerations
Both platforms avoid endpoint agents and support on-premises deployment, which matters for air-gapped and internet-restricted networks. Forescout describes on-premises appliances, virtual machines, and Docker-based containers, with hybrid and cloud-based options (Forescout, accessed October 29, 2026). Asimily is delivered as a cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) with on-premises deployment available, and collects data through Asimily Edge software on a dedicated appliance, a virtual machine, or switches that support Cisco application hosting.

| Deployment Factor | Asimily | Forescout |
|---|---|---|
| Agents Required | None | None |
| Environment | Cloud, on-premises | On-premises, hybrid, cloud-based |
| Data Collection | Sub-1U, 1U, Virtual Collectors | Appliances, virtual machines, Docker containers |
Worked Example: Segmenting a Group of IP Cameras
This example is illustrative, not a customer story. Observe: Asimily’s passive analysis shows IP cameras on one VLAN talking to a video server and a time server, and to nothing else. Profile: Asimily classifies the cameras by make, model, and firmware, and ATT&CK Analysis shows which of their exposures an attacker could actually use, so the group ranks high. Propose: Segmentation Orchestration drafts a policy that allows only the observed flows. Simulate: Policy Simulation runs the draft against live traffic and lists any port or service that would be blocked, before anything changes. Enforce: the Enforcement Plan shows the steps for the team’s existing NAC, such as a downloadable ACL (DACL) on Cisco ISE or Aruba ClearPass, or for a supported firewall. A team that runs Forescout can instead use Forescout’s own VLAN and ACL actions, driven by the risk attributes Asimily pushes into Forescout.
How to Test Both in a Proof of Value
Asimily’s stated expectation is value within 48 hours and most devices identified within 14 days. Run the same six checks on Forescout and on Asimily, on one site of your own network:
- List the devices each platform finds on a sample VLAN, including devices that cannot run agents.
- Ask which discovered exposures are exploitable in your environment, and why.
- Take one proposed segmentation policy and record what it would block against observed traffic.
- Confirm which enforcement point applies the policy, and how a change is rolled back.
- Check what each platform does for a device that can be patched and for one that cannot.
- Ask about data export, deployment model, which capabilities are licensed separately including eyeSight, eyeSegment, eyeInspect, and eyeExtend, and renewal terms.
When Forescout Fits Better
Forescout is the closer fit when the network itself must enforce access, and for teams that weigh its scale and certifications. Asimily has no switch-level enforcement of its own and relies on NACs and firewalls, so these cases favor Forescout:
- Native NAC enforcement. Forescout assigns VLANs, applies ACLs, and supports both 802.1X and non-802.1X environments (Forescout, accessed October 29, 2026).
- One vendor for discovery and access control. Forescout lists network access control, network segmentation, and asset inventory in one platform (Forescout, accessed October 29, 2026).
- Established vendor. Forescout’s company page lists Advent International and Crosspoint Capital Partners as investors and describes a long record in network access control (Forescout, accessed October 29, 2026).
- Industrial protocol depth. Forescout’s eyeInspect datasheet describes inspection of industrial protocols (Forescout, 2024).
- Federal cloud authorization. Forescout announced FedRAMP High authorization for its Vistaro cloud services on March 24, 2026 (Forescout). Buyers with federal requirements should confirm each vendor’s current status.
- Analyst presence. Gartner evaluated Forescout in its 2026 Magic Quadrant for CPS Protection Platforms and placed it among the Challengers. Asimily was not among the 13 vendors evaluated (Nozomi Networks summary, March 2026).
The Bottom Line
Forescout: Forescout is a network access control platform that also discovers, classifies, and scores risk for IoT, OT, IoMT, and IT assets without agents, and it enforces at the switch with VLAN and ACL actions. It suits teams that want discovery and enforcement from one vendor and weigh its installed base and federal cloud authorization.
Asimily: Asimily builds the inventory first, including software, services, applications, middleware, and AI workloads, then analyzes exploitability with ATT&CK Analysis, then creates, simulates, and continuously maintains segmentation policy that existing NACs and supported firewalls enforce. This can result in more intelligent segmentation, that understands risk. Apart from discovery and network segmentation, Asimily adds IoT Patching and Configuration Control. It does not enforce at the switch, so it works best beside the NAC a team already runs, Forescout included.

Frequently Asked Questions
The main difference between Forescout and Asimily is the breadth of their capabilities and where enforcement happens. Asimily creates a detailed inventory using multiple methods to miss as few assets as possible, while still safely gathering data. Forescout is also a network access control (NAC) platform that gathers data about network nodes, assigns VLANs and applies ACLs at the switch. Asimily does not enforce at the switch. Asimily analyzes exploitability with its own ATT&CK Analysis for each customer device vulnerability, then creates and simulates segmentation policy that existing NACs and firewalls enforce. Both discover devices without agents and inspect network traffic.
It depends on what Forescout does in your network. Asimily can cover discovery, exposure management, and segmentation policy work, but it does not replace NAC enforcement at the switch. Teams that use Forescout as their access control layer can keep it and add Asimily alongside it. Teams on another NAC, such as Cisco ISE or Aruba ClearPass, can enforce Asimily policy there.
Yes. Asimily’s platform documentation describes a bidirectional integration with Forescout eyeSight and CounterACT. Asimily pulls Forescout’s device inventory and classification policies. It can also push risk score, impact rating, and IoT patch or firmware status into Forescout as custom host attributes, which Forescout policies can use. The push uses Forescout’s Data Exchange (DEX) module, which may need a license upgrade.
Forescout Vistaro is the new name of the Forescout 4D Platform, announced June 24, 2026 (Forescout). Forescout says the change affects only the name. The platform covers visibility and control of managed and unmanaged assets across IoT, OT, IoMT, and IT environments, and the release ties it to VistaroAI, Forescout’s suite of AI-driven security capabilities. It lists integrations with many security and IT products.
Advent International has owned Forescout since August 2020, when it completed its tender offer for the company, with Crosspoint Capital Partners as co-investor (Ropes & Gray, August 2020). Forescout’s company page still lists both firms as investors. We found no ownership change in 2026. Forescout renamed its platform in June 2026, but a rename does not change ownership.
Yes. Forescout offers network access control (NAC) as part of its platform. It dynamically assigns devices to VLANs, applies access control lists, and supports both 802.1X and non-802.1X environments, according to Forescout’s NAC page (accessed October 29, 2026). Asimily is not a NAC. It sends policy through existing NACs and supported firewalls, and it lists Forescout among its NAC integrations.
No. Forescout describes its discovery and controls as agentless, using more than 30 discovery methods (Forescout, March 23, 2026). Its sensors can run as appliances, virtual machines, or Docker containers. Asimily also collects data without endpoint agents, using passive network analysis, safe active querying where devices tolerate it, and integrations, through Asimily Edge software or an appliance.
Yes, for its eyeSegment product. Forescout says teams can validate segmentation policies against live traffic to see real-world impact before activation (Forescout, accessed October 29, 2026). Asimily’s Policy Simulation also tests a proposed policy against live traffic and shows which ports and services it would block, and its Enforcement Plan lets administrators review each step before deployment.
No. Asimily does not enforce at the switch itself. Asimily creates and simulates segmentation policy, then applies it through existing network access control (NAC) systems and supported firewalls, such as Cisco ISE and Aruba ClearPass. Continuous Segmentation applies NAC and firewall policies automatically to new devices that match a policy. Teams that want the platform itself to enforce at the switch should consider a NAC such as Forescout.
Yes. Forescout describes on-premises appliances, virtual machines, and Docker-based containers, with air-gapped, hybrid, and cloud-based options (Forescout, accessed October 29, 2026). Asimily offers cloud and on-premises deployment, including for air-gapped and internet-restricted networks, and collects data through Asimily Edge software on a dedicated appliance, a virtual machine, or switches that support Cisco application hosting.
Yes. Gartner evaluated Forescout in its 2026 Magic Quadrant for Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) Protection Platforms, published March 3, 2026, and placed it among the Challengers, according to a Nozomi Networks summary of the report. Gartner evaluated 13 vendors. Asimily was not among them, so buyers should weigh peer reviews and testing in their own environment.
Whether a team that already runs Forescout needs Asimily depends on the questions it cannot yet answer: which devices are being missed and how exploitable they truly are, which policy is safe to enforce, and how policy stays current as devices change. Asimily integrates with Forescout, so teams can keep Forescout as the access control layer and add Asimily for those questions. A proof of value on one site tests the fit.
A renewal is a reasonable time to test, not an automatic reason to switch. Weigh the enforcement point you need, the deployment model, the roadmap, and ownership: Advent International has owned Forescout since August 2020, and the platform was renamed Vistaro in June 2026. Run the same proof of value on Forescout and every finalist, using your own network. Asimily can run beside Forescout during that test.
Forescout is better when the network itself must enforce segmentation at the switch, and Asimily is better when the team wants exploitability analysis and simulated policy that existing NACs and firewalls enforce. Both models can span IoT, OT, IoMT, and IT assets. The choice follows the enforcement point you already run and how much policy testing you need before enforcement.
Common alternatives to Forescout include Armis, Aruba ClearPass, Asimily, Axonius, Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), Claroty, Elisity, and ORDR, as compared in our Forescout alternatives guide. Cisco ISE and Aruba ClearPass are the closest to Forescout’s network access control core. Asimily differs by carrying a finding through to a fix: ATT&CK Analysis, then simulated segmentation policy enforced through existing NACs and firewalls.
